Judge Mary Devins adjourned sentencing this week on a Ballinrobe man who pleaded guilty to driving without insurance. Thomas Ackroyd, Carrowkeel, Ballinrobe, Co Mayo, was detected after being involved in an accident at Scardaun, Claremorris, on November 23 2009.
The court was told that Ackroyd had only bought the car the previous day as his other car was in the garage getting repaired and he forgot to change over the insurance to his new car. Ackroyd told the court he was very sorry for what had happened and that nothing like that would happen again. He added he would probably lose his job if he lost his licence as he would not be able to get to and from work.
Judge Mary Devins told the court that she would hold over imposing penalties until January, she also noted that Ackroyd was driving on a provisional driving licence and that she would take it into account if he passed the driving test in the meantime.
