A 15 camera CCTV set-up is proposed for Westport according to the Garda Superintendent of the town, Mick Murray.
At the Westport Joint Policing Committee on Monday, the superintendent said that he has identified 15 locations in the town core for “overt” cameras, which will use a wireless system, which will broadcast back to the Garda station, allowing for “50 per cent crime detection and 50 per cent crime prevention”.
Initially it was envisaged that a 32 camera system be implemented, however, due to funding the superintendent hopes that this “more agreeable” application will be successful.
