After having had a highly successful 2009-2010 run, Mayo Youth Theatre-Ballina returns for an even more exciting and ambitious season. Meeting every Tuesday between 6pm and 8pm, members participate in specially designed drama workshops, specialist technical and performance workshops, and of course trips to the theatre. But most importantly it is a high-energy group and great fun.
The youth theatre is aimed at anyone aged between 14 and 22 with an interest in any aspect of drama, whether it is acting (for theatre or film ), music, dance, sound, lighting, production management, or scriptwriting. Established in 1999, it not only aims to facilitate the enjoyment of drama but also aims to promote, develop, and support high quality youth theatre. It emphasises personal and social development equally with the attainment of artistic excellence. In youth theatre personal and social developments are as important as artistic quality.
The youth theatre aspires to create an environment where young people have the freedom to explore their imagination while developing their creativity and expression. They will be exploring subjects important to them through creative expression while learning drama techniques. It allows young people to develop their communication and artistic skills in a concentrated group with an experienced tutor.
Mayo Youth Theatre, Ballina, resumes on Tuesday, September 21 in Ballina Arts Centre at 6pm. Note that Ballina Arts Centre has moved to Arran Place, Ballina.
