Out of order public lighting needs to be fixed

Fine Gael spokesperson on social protection, Deputy Michael Ring, has called for a survey to be undertaken to locate and mend out-of-order public lighting throughout Mayo before the arrival of winter.

Airtricity, which has the contract for the maintenance of public lighting in the county, “should have representatives out at night to pinpoint street lights that are not working”, the deputy said.

Dep Ring said that “it is disgraceful to see some lights out of order” as “Airtricity are being paid for this work and in some cases, lights are out of order for a long length of time.”

“Faulty lighting too can also contribute to increasing rates of criminality and also pose a danger to pedestrians,” concluded Dep Ring.
