Achill sewerage scheme to be commissioned

A positive step forward in relation to the Achill Sound Sewerage Scheme was announced at this week’s meeting of the Belmullet Electoral Area Committee, where it was announced that commissioning of the treatment system will go ahead in October or November.

The news was welcomed by local area councillors. Councillor Michael McNamara asked when resurfacing of the road in the village will take place as the road is currently “in a terrible state”, as are the footpaths which are frequently used by elderly people from the nearby nursing home. The councillor was informed that the road will be reinstated in the near future.

Rose Conway-Walsh asked about the Belmullet Sewerage Scheme, however Joe Beirne, director of services for the area, said that the EPA has not discharged the licence for this scheme yet.
