Women in Westport urged to attend BreastCheck

The National Cancer Screening Service has confirmed that having completed the second round screening of women aged 50 to 64 living in Castlebar, women living in Westport are now being invited for their free mammogram at a BreastCheck mobile digital screening unit in the grounds of Mayo General Hospital in Castlebar.

BreastCheck is offered to women every two years. A BreastCheck mammogram is a simple procedure and an appointment only takes about half an hour in total. The aim of screening is to detect early breast cancer.

BreastCheck advises all women aged 50 to 64 to make sure their name is on the BreastCheck register by calling freephone 1800 454555 or checking online at www.breastcheck.ie Once on the register and known to the programme, a woman will automatically receive her invitation for a mammogram by post when BreastCheck is screening in her area.
