A new two-acre public park near the Greenway was given the thumbs up by town councillors at Westport local authority’s meeting last week.
The garden, to be designed by celebrity gardener Diarmuid Gavin, is also to feature a multi use games area and skatepark.
RTÉ is to film the development of the park and will air the programme in early 2011.
Funding has been sought from LEADER funding for the MUGA and skatepark, while the local Tidy Towns Committee has committed funding for the garden.
