Soccer tournaments return after seven year absence

The finals of the Mick Fitzpatrick Cup and the Tosh Connors Shield seven -a -side soccer tournament was re-established this year after a seven year absence.

This year it was organised for mainly over 35s with three under 35s allowed per team. Next year the tournament will be open to all ages. Many thanks must go to councillor Joe Malone who kindly sponsored the trophies for the event and was available to present the prizes to the winning teams which took place in The Park Inn on Saturday last. The Tosh Connors Shield was presented to the winning captain on the night by Theresa Trehy, sister of the late Tosh Connors. Also thanks must go to all who participated in and helped run this fine event and to the many enthusiastic supporters who came to Assumption Place to watch the games.
