An autumn tag rugby tournament in currently being organised in Castlebar. The tournament will get under way on Thursday September 23 and will run each Thursday night for six weeks. The final will take place on Friday October 29. Games will get under way at 7pm each Thursday at Castlebar Rugby Club and the tournament promises to be fun from beginning to end. Tag rugby has really taken off in Mayo over the last 12 months and is a great social outlet for men and women. Between now and then, training continues on Tuesday nights at 7pm and there will be two introductory nights on Thursday September 9 and 16 for new players who would like to get involved in the Tournament. Why not come along and start tag rugby in Castlebar. All are welcome.
Claremorris Colts
Registration for Claremorris Colts RFC’s 2010/2011 season will take place in the McWilliam Park Hotel on September 15 and 18. It is being held over two days to give parents ample opportunity to come along On Wednesday September 15, children can be registered between 7pm and 9pm, while registration on Saturday September 18 will take place from 11am until 2pm. The venue for both days is the Lambert Suite, which is located on the first floor in the McWilliam Park Hotel.
Training will commence on Saturday September 25. With a great line-up of fixtures already organised, it certainly looks like it will be an action-packed season ahead. This year, as well as Mini Rugby, the Colts will be holding training sessions for the older age groups. Training will be open to beginners as well as those who may have some experience of rugby. Whether your child/children played rugby with the Colts last year, or whether he or she is interested in joining the club this year for the first time, they will be more than welcome.
The mini rugby teams will be u7, u8, u9, u10, u11 and u12. The u7 team is open to children from five years and up. For the older children, there will be training at u13, u14 and u15 levels. Registration for all levels and age groups will take place at the same time and the cost for the new season will be €90 per child (€150 for two siblings, €200 for three or more siblings ). This will include a club windcheater and club socks (or a Colts jersey for new members who do not already have a jersey ). Parents are asked to please bring along a copy of their child’s birth certificate for registration purposes if they have not already supplied this to the club.
Claremorris tag rugby blitz
The tag rugby season is coming to a close and to finish on a high note, the Claremorris Colts RFC are organising a one-day tag blitz at the convent pitch tomorrow, Saturday September 4. The blitz will be all about fun and there’ll be a barbecue later that evening in Hanley’s Bar.
Participants will be asked to pay €10 each to enter and teams will literally be picked out of a hat on the day (in front of everyone ) to ensure that the emphasis is on fun. A great day and night is guaranteed. Participants are asked to arrive at the pitch at 12.30pm on Saturday to allow time for entry and picking teams. Games will get under way at 1pm. The blitz will operate in league format and all teams will play a minimum of four games before the knock-out stages. The blitz is expected to continue until approximately 5pm, with the barbecue getting underway out the back of Hanley’s Bar at 6pm.
