Jazz Motion Mayo in association with The Kevin Brady Trio has pleased to announce their first jazz workshop will be held at PJ Duffy's in Ballina on September 24. The workshop will be led by three of Ireland's leading jazz talents - Phil Ware (piano ), Damian Evans (double bass ), and Kevin Brady (drums ). The workshop will be followed by a concert from the trio of original compositions and standard songs from the Great American Songbook.
You may be either new to the jazz idiom or have not had much experience in group playing, but the main focus of the workshop will be on explaining the format of a jazz piano trio performance, the role of each instrument within the trio, and other technical issues regarding song forms, learning to hear your way through a bass/drum solo, soloing techniques, and sight reading. The trio will take a thorough look at rhythm and rhythmic aspects of playing within this style of music, and throughout the workshop participants will also be able to gain experience by performing with the trio.
This promises to be another great day of jazz in the west and is not to be missed. To book for the workshop, or to ask for more details, contact Marguerite on 087 8394640. The workshop runs from 2pm to 5pm in PJ Duffy's, Clare Street, Ballina, on Friday September 24 and the fee is €25. Doors for the concert open at 8.30pm and admission to the concert is by donation. Jazz Motion Mayo was launched in 2007 to promote and develop jazz and improvised music in Mayo. Since then Jazz Motion Mayo has presented four jazz concerts throughout the county and has produced a documentary for RTÉ Radio on jazz musician Larry Hingerton.
