Forget about X-Factor, You’re a Star, or Ireland’s Got Talent, as the west’s biggest ever battle of the bands competition, Blast 2010, is launched at the west’s newest and most exciting entertainment venue, The Gateway Live in Belmullet. Blast 2010 at the Gateway Live is set to attract all types of acts and bands from all over the west of Ireland with a prize fund of €8,000 on offer, including a professional recording contract to help launch the career of the winning band or act.
Launching Blast 2010, Gateway Live Director Enda Brogan said, “We really hope to find the next U2, The Script, The High Kings or The Coronas here at the Gateway Live in Belmullet over the coming months”. Judges will rate the bands every Friday night at the Gateway Live with audience participation also crucial to the voting process. “We have judges from the entertainment world in the west, high profile politicians, sports stars and several other VIP personalities lined up to cast their eye over the bands every Friday night at the Gateway Live from September 24. The audience participation is also crucial to the voting process each Friday night, as those present will also get a chance to vote for their favourite act,” commented Brogan.
Blast 2010 will see a final selection of 32 bands or acts battle it out over eight weekends at the Gateway Live with the winning act each week advancing to the semi-finals. “This competition is open to everyone. It can be rock, trad, folk, R&B, jazz, country, hip hop, or pop acts that enter. The key to success we say is, Give it a Blast and you could become the next big act on the Irish music scene,” stated Brogan. Apart from a recording contract for the winning band, other prizes include sun holidays, support gigs at the Gateway Live and a marketing and promotions platform to blast yourself into the Irish charts. Blast 2010 entry forms are available from www.gatewayleisure.ie or by calling (097 ) 20002. The final date for entry to Blast 2010 is September 16.
