Man being searched told garda to ‘f**k off’

A man who, when he was being searched by a garda told him to “f**k off”, was before Castlebar District Court this week.

On August 23, Garda John Melia were conducting a checkpoint at Castlebar when a car in which Michael McDonagh, 32 McCormack Estate, Castlebar, was travelling in was stopped.

McDonagh got out of the car and shouted to the garda that “you’re too late, I threw it out the window”. Garda Melia believed that the defendant was referring to drugs and as the garda attempted to search him, McDonagh shouted the obscenity at the garda and said that “you have no right to search me”.

The 19-year-old was convicted and fined €100 by Judge Mary Devins.
