Rail line out of Mayo closed following Roscommon collision

The rail line in and out of Mayo was closed yesterday evening after a collision between a tractor and train in Roscommon, which left the driver of the tractor dead.

The collision between a freight train from Ballina to North Wall in Dublin occurred at a level crossing in Ballymacfrane, near the village of Donamon in Roscommon, at 9.30am. The scene was closed off by gardaí while rail accident investigators examined the scene.

Bus services were put in place for all passengers travelling on the line from Roscommon to Westport, causing delays to the passengers using the service.
