The Mayor of Castlebar Councillor Ger Deere has embarked on a visit of the three secondary schools in Castlebar over the next few days to formally welcome the hundreds of first year students who will be starting their post primary studies in the county town.
“I think that it is appropriate that the mayor welcomes all first year students, as after all they will be part of the community for the next six years,” Cllr Deere said.
The Fine Gael councillor added that one of his priorities as mayor is to involve young people more in the workings of the town council. “I have some initiatives in mind and I will be meeting with all interested groups in the next few weeks,” Cllr Deere concluded.
