National Broadband Scheme almost up and running in Mayo

Fine Gael leader Enda Kenny has received confirmation that 102 electoral districts in County Mayo are now live under the National Broadband Scheme.

A total of 112 electoral districts are covered by the National Broadband Scheme in Mayo with a remaining 10 to go live. It is expected that the remaining 10 electoral districts will go live by the end of September. With 91 per cent of electoral districts in the county now live, it already covers 97 per cent of addresses in the total 112 areas being covered by the scheme in certain areas of Mayo.

“While I welcome the improvement of broadband provision in the county; particularly in areas that had no coverage before this, it is still only one step in the right direction,” Deputy Kenny said. “Once this scheme is up and running, it is important that the Communications Minister, Eamon Ryan, looks at ideas such as those contained in Fine Gael's New ERA policy document. We need to start focusing on future development of broadband access and speeds as soon as possible.”
