Castlebar Town Council Mayor Ger Deere led the tributes this week to the late Liam Coady, who died suddenly while on holidays in London last weekend.
“Castlebar, and not only Fine Gael, have lost a true ambassador this week and a thorough gentleman,” Cllr Deere told the Mayo Advertiser this week. Mr Coady served two terms as chairperson of Castlebar Town Council during his 20 years on the council, in 1987-88 and 1994-95, and since 2001 he was Enda Kenny’s official driver. Prior to working for Dep Kenny he worked in the family pub and undertaking business alongside his brother Adrian.
“I’m a far better person for having known Liam and worked alongside him for a number of years,” Cllr Deere added. “You could see this week in how high a regard he was held by people of every different political persuasion by the messages of sympathy that have been received by his family since this tragic and sudden loss.”
Liam Coady is survived by his wife Kathleen and daughter Regina, brother Adrian, and sister Maria.
His remains will repose at Coady’s funeral home, Linenhall Street, Castlebar, from 5pm to 8pm this evening, (Friday ) before removal to the Church of the Holy Rosary, Castlebar with burial in the old cemetery, Castlebar after 11am Mass on Saturday morning.
