Mary Staunton brings top trad to the stage

Tourmakeady-born accordionist par excellence Mary Staunton performs with a dazzling line-up of fellow musicians at the Linenhall Arts Centre in Castlebar on Thursday, September 16 at 8pm.

Mary will be showcasing her newly released album Circle of Friends in a highly anticipated evening as part of a stellar line-up of musical talent including bodhrán player extraordinaire Johnny ‘Ringo’ McDonagh (De Danann, Arcady ) and banjo/mandolin/fiddle all-star Mary Shannon (Bumblebees, Sharon Shannon Band, The Woodchoppers ). Following up on Mary’s hugely acclaimed debut album Bright Early Mornings, this looks set to be a night of Irish trad at its very finest. On the Edge at the Linenhall

On The Edge, an exciting exhibition of contemporary glass, continues in the Linenhall Arts Centre in Castlebar for the month of August. Demonstrating the vast possibilities of glass as a powerful creative medium for expression, On The Edge features a range of two- and three-dimensional work displaying techniques both familiar and novel, created by 20 artists from Ireland and southwest England. The artists, whose work represents some of the finest in contemporary glass work, are: Roísín dé Buitléar, Sean Campbell, Donna Coogan, Debbie Dawson, Fiaz Elson, Sally Fawkes, Rosalind Grimshaw, Chinks Grylls, Joseph Harrington, Susan Kinley, Mary Mackey, Caroline Madden, Emma O’Toole, Emmy-Gai Palmer, Colin Reid, Louise Rice, Killian Schurmann, Keith Seybert, Will Shakspeare, Suzannah Vaughan, and Carole Waller.

This stunning and beautiful show is a touring exhibition organised by Cheltenham Art Gallery and Museum, Chinks Grylls and Mary Mackey in partnership with Crafts Council of Ireland. The exhibition runs until Saturday August 28.
