Lovers of good food, and particularly those with a passion for fresh fish, will be tantalised by the opening of the new Fishworks restaurant in Westport, part of the Atlantic Carlton Hotel on the quays.
Beautifully refurbished in homely traditional decor with an aquamarine theme, daily fish dishes are fresh from the sea and served full of flavour directly to your table.
Diners can choose from cold and hot fish fare, with the seafood platter offering a taste sensation of oysters, mussels, crab, smoked salmon, prawns and more. The chowder option is hot and creamy with rich pickings of a choice variety of fish, while main course options such as the self-explanatory ‘Have to have it Haddock’ and superb chunky crisp-battered cod ‘Whale Supper’, with home cut chips, mushy peas and tartar are surefire winners. Other fish options include herb crumbed hake fillet, seriously good salmon gougons and fresh catch of the day.
Restaurant staff are also on hand with great service and recommendations of the perfect wine accompaniment for your meal.
Fish isn’t the only meat protein on offer at Fishworks either with generous homemade Irish beef burger, Cajun chicken fillet and 10oz sirloin steak choices also featuring on the menu. The chunky chips alone might prove sufficiently filling for some, but for others with appetites whet by the strong sea air additional side dishes such as onion rings are also available.
Pannini and sandwich selections are additionally on offer, while children will love the kids’ menu with a choice of chicken nuggets/Irish burger or sausages and chips.
A daily selection of homemade desserts from cheesecakes to cream tarts can also be had with jelly and ice-cream for the kids including chocolate, vanilla and strawberry flavours.
As the summer wind-down commences and Fishworks bids farewell to the many visitors it has hosted during a bumper summer at the quays, locals are now invited to come along and try out the extensive menu which has something for everyone.
