A photographic exhibition of the Irish Missionaries of the Sacred Heart (MSC ) is currently running in the public library in Pearse Street, Ballina. The wide range of photographs depicts the early years of MSC missionaries in Ireland, and their departure to Papua New Guinea, to South Africa, to Venezuela, and more recently to Russia.
The exhibition includes Swinford-born Fr Adrian McHugh who ministered in South Africa all his priestly life and who, prior to his unexpected death in 2008, was heavily involved in helping refugees fleeing from the violence in Zimbabwe.
Ballina librarian Barbara Varley said that the library is delighted to host this very interesting exhibition of photographs. Anyone wishing to support the MSC missions can contact Fr Michael O’Connell at the MSC Mission Support Centre, PO Box 23, Western Road, Cork.
