Get outdoors for Wild Child Day

When was the last time you or your kids climbed a tree, collected bugs or made a den in the garden? This Saturday is your cue as National Heritage Week kicks off with Wild Child Day (August 21 ).

Heritage Council Chief Executive Michael Starrett explained: “This year is the International Year of Biodiversity and to celebrate this, the first Saturday of National Heritage Week has been designated Wild Child Day. The idea behind the day is to encourage families and kids to get outdoors, and interact and connect with the natural world to see the beauty and benefits it has to offer. For those that can't make it to an event, go into your garden or local park, lie on the grass, explore with your children and enjoy the nature on your doorstep.”

National Heritage Week coordinated by the Heritage Council runs from August 21 to 29. With more than 1,200 events taking place across the country throughout the week there are lots to do for all ages and all the family. The majority of the events are free of charge and a full list of what is happening in each county throughout the week is available on www.heritageweek.ie
