GMIT and USI student grants information evening

GMIT Castlebar, in conjunction with the Union of Students in Ireland (USI ), will hold a grant and accommodation information session on Thursday August 26 next in the GMIT Castlebar campus at 7pm. The information session is aimed at students and the parents of students who are either returning or starting college this year.

The event will give students and their families the opportunity to find out everything they need to know about the student grants system in Ireland and how to go about looking for accommodation if they are moving away from home.

Free practical help will also be available to students or parents who may need assistance filling out the relevant application forms. Grant application forms are now downloadable from www.studentfinance.ie and will be available at the information session.

“August can be a very hectic time with Leaving Cert results, CAO offers, etc,” said GMIT Castlebar student union president Alan Judge. “The Union of Students in Ireland, along with local student unions such as ours, are working to try and make the transition into the college year as easy as possible.

“Finding accommodation if you are moving away from home or completing the grant application form can often be a daunting task but free practical help is at hand from your local students’ union. If you are unsure about the grant application form or if you qualify for a grant, drop into our information session where there will be a wealth of experience available to answer your queries. You don't need to be a student at the Castlebar campus to receive this information. If you have a question drop in and get the answer. All are welcome.” For further information, contact Alan Judge, 087 7520575
