The annual Irish Manufacturing Conference is to be held in Galway this year at the Galway-Mayo Institute of Technology on the theme of “Manufacturing Matters in the Smart Economy”.
The conference will be opened by Minister for Enterprise, Trade and Innovation Batt O’Keeffe and will focus on technology, biomedical engineering, energy and innovation, with speakers contributing to the national debate on the ‘smart’ economy.
Keynote addresses will be delivered by Paraic Curtis of Boston Scientific, Leonard Moran, Ovagen, Rory O’Connor, former MD of Hewlett- Packard, Brian Motherway, Sustainable Energy Ireland, Liam Brown, Enterprise Ireland, John Power, Aerogen, John O’Dea, Crospon, Ian Quinn, Creganna, John Flaherty, C&F Tooling, John Concannon, JFC Manufacturing and others.
“There is a common misconception that the Irish manufacturing industry is dying or being eroded by lower-cost economies,” said Dr Patrick Delassus, head of research at GMIT. “However the reality is that we have a plethora of companies and individuals in Ireland who consistently demonstrate that, with the ingenuity and acumen to survive, real opportunities exist for those who are adaptable, innovative, and knowledgeable.”
This conference which runs from September 1-3 will address issues in relation to Ireland's future manufacturing sector and examine how manufacturing can be sustained, enhanced, and advanced in a knowledge-based economy.
