Cllr Harry Barrett has welcomed the provision of pedestrian crossings for the children of St Patrick's Boys' National School, Castlebar. According to Cllr Barrett, work on the crossings is to begin in the coming weeks and will be completed before the children return to school.
“I am delighted that the town council will shortly have these crossings in place,” Cllr Barrett said. ”I understand they will be in before the kids return to school and will be greatly welcomed by children and parents attending St Patrick's.
“All credit to the principal, Mr Vincent McHale, the parents' association who campaigned so vigorously for the crossings, the parents who signed petitions, and the children themselves who took part in safety surveys to show the real need for the new crossings.
“I have been campaigning for these crossings for a number of years now and am thrilled to see that the funding has finally been allocated to allow the young children and their parents to cross safely on one of the busiest stretches of road in the county.”
