Funding received for home security

Government funding of almost €5,000 towards home security for older people has just been allocated to Comharchumann Forbartha Cill tSeandna, Ballina, as part of a national total of €138,000 for community and voluntary groups.

The announcement was made this week by Minister Pat Carey at the Department of Community, Equality and Gaeltacht Affairs under the new Seniors Alert Scheme which has replaced the Scheme of Community Support for Older People. The new scheme provides grant support towards the cost of supplying and installing items of safety and security equipment, including personal monitored alert systems, and is available to persons aged 65 or older of limited means, living alone or with other eligible persons.

“The equipment funded will enable older people to continue to live securely in their homes with confidence, independence and peace of mind”, said Minister Carey.
