CSO reports increase in retail sales volume

Figures released by the CSO in relation to retail sales volume index show that there was a one per cent increase in June 2010 in comparison to June 2009.

A number of sectors showed year on year increases in June 2010, with the most significant being: motor trades up 13.9 per cent; non specialised stores up 1.4 per cent; and clothing, footwear and textiles up 2.6 per cent.

Provisional estimates are now available for the second quarter of 2010. These figures show the volume of retail sales increased 3.3 per cent year on year in the second quarter of 2010 and there was a quarterly increase of 6.9 per cent.
