Mayo Fine Gael TD John O’Mahony has welcomed news from the Office of Public Works that mitigation works to provide flood protection in the Hollymount and Roundfort areas will start in September.
However Deputy O’Mahony has warned against complacency, pointing out that local people have been given the same promises in previous years but the area still remains very susceptible to flooding.
“The people of Roundfort and Hollymount don’t need me to tell them that they have been given assurances in the past that the issues would be dealt with but they weren’t,” he said. “It’s a huge problem for people living in the area and those who are cut off because of the floodwaters.
“I’ve been in regular contact with the Office of the Public Works in Headford regarding this issue and I’m delighted that this commitment to commence works in late September has been given.”
