Mayo book Connacht u21B final spot

Mayo 3-16

Leitrim 1-8

The Mayo u21 hurlers got their campaign off to a comfortable start with a 14-point win over Leitrim in Carrick-on-Shannon. Mayo played with the favour of the breeze in the opening half and raced into a comfortable 3-10 to 0-0 lead at the interval, thanks to a brace of goals from replacement full-forward Alan Stenson, and a third goal from live wire corner forward Darren McTighe. Also points from play from Kevin Duffy, Paul O'Grady and Brian Hunt set the pace of the game early on, while Mayo free-taker Kenny Feeney was also in top form with four opening-half points.

Leitrim came more into the tie on the resumption, as a goal straight from a line ball opened Leitrim’s account. The second half was played out at training ground pace, with Kenny Feeney recording all of Mayo's six second-half points from frees. Players who performed well for Mayo included Michael Morley, Colin Staunton, Greg Henry and Liam McDermott. Mayo now go forward to play Roscommon (who overcame Sligo by 3-13 to 0-4 ) in the final next week.
