Nominations for this year’s National Q Mark (quality ) awards have just been unveiled and sitting top of the line-up is one of Castlebar’s most popular eateries, Supermac’s of Main Street.
The fast-food diner has been nominated for the Q Mark Award for Hygiene and Food Safety in the category of Fast Service Restaurants.
Long recognised by the community in Castlebar as a top quality food and convenience dining venue, Supermac’s on Main Street has recently been taken over by new franchisee, Joan Collins, a native of Tuam who has more than 20 years’ experience working in the company. Ms Collins managed a number of stores for the group before becoming area manager and then training manager, setting up shops, organising health and safety courses, and ensuring top hygiene standards. This is her first foray as a Supermac,s franchisee and so far she is really enjoying the experience.
“It’s going very well. For me it’s all about always improving standards. As a franchisee here in Castlebar it’s also important that we get to know the people of the town and get involved with the community.”
Supermac’s is one of the leading fast food groups on the Irish market with more than 100 branches nationwide, including Northern Ireland. Food and hygiene standards have always been a priority within the group and over the years various branches have been nominated for Q awards.
“These awards give staff great incentive for all their hard work over the years and this nomination is down to the great team effort of staff and managers in striving to improve standards in food safety and quality and customer satisfaction on an ongoing basis,” said Ms Collins.
The EIQA has been the Irish National Quality Association since 1969 and currently regulates thousands of organisations on an annual basis, both nationwide and internationally.
