Drunk man urinated in Garda cell

A man who, when arrested for being intoxicated in public, urinated all over the cell door and floor in Castlebar Garda Station, was before Castlebar District Court this week where Judge Mary Devins said that his actions on the night were “worse than animal behaviour”.

Eamonn Dunne, Flat 1, JBTV Centre, Castlebar, was placed in a cell on June 26 after being arrested for being drunk on Pound Road. Dunne urinated in the cell, which cost €50 to clean.

Lynda Lenehan, solicitor for the defendant, said that the 27-year-old has a drink problem and he is willing to pay for the clean up.

Judge Devins remanded him on continuing bail to December 15 for sentencing and said that “the least you can do is pay for the cost and send a letter of apology to gardaí.”
