New national school building for Brackloon

A new four-classroom school for Brackloon in Westport has just been approved, according to Beverley Flynn, TD.

The new Brackloon NS is to be built on a greenfield site under a devolved grant from the Department of Education and Skills

Deputy Flynn said she was delighted to make the announcement about the school, which will be of such benefit to pupils, teachers, and parents.

“This is a red letter day for Brackloon and the entire local community,” she said, “and I am very happy that my representations on behalf of the school have had such a welcome and positive result.”

Deputy Flynn said that under the grant arrangement the site will be purchased by the school’s board of management and will be vested in trustees via an official lease.

“I am very pleased for the board of management, headed by Simon Wall, for school principal Brendan Tunney and his staff, as well as for the parents of the children attending Brackloon NS,” she said.

She also paid tribute to local councillors Margaret Adams and Brendan Mulroy who had been fully supportive of the new school.

“My ambition now is to ensure that the preliminary steps are completed as speedily as possible to allow the school become a reality,” Dep Flynn concluded.
