A mother of three who was detected drink driving while she had her children in the car was disqualified from driving for two years at Ballina District Court on Tuesday.
Dorothy Halloran, Tallaghan, Geesala, Ballina, was stopped on July 11 2010 at 5.15pm, by Garda Pat O’Hora at Knockalegan, Crossmolina. The defendant whose three children were in the car, was arrested for drink driving.
A breath sample was provided which gave a reading of 42mg of alcohol per 100ml of breath.
The defendant, who represented herself, said that she had stopped drinking the night before at 2am and did not think that she was over the limit the next day.
Judge Mary Devins said that “drink driving is bad, but drink driving with children in the car is appalling”.
Halloran, who has one previous drink driving conviction, was convicted and fined €800 and disqualified from driving for two years
