Chartered physiotherapist Simon Rowan is now available for evening appointments at the Brooklands Medical Centre, Lough Lannagh Road, Castlebar. Since qualifying in 2001 Simon has worked with the HSE in Galway Regional Hospital, and Merlin Park Hospital and working now in association with Dr Michael Waldron, specialises in treating musculoskeletal problems, particularly in relation to neck and back pain, sports injuries and male incontinence.

Sports injuries

At this time of year more people are playing sport so typically Simon would see a lot of sprains and strains over the summer. Problems include everything from hamstring to soft tissue injuries, muscle tears, shin splints, ankle sprains, knee injuries, cartilage tears, repetitive strain on tennis elbows and a variety of shoulder impingement injuries such as rotator cuff pain.

Chronic pain

Simon also treats ailments associated with general degenerative diseases including disc problems and ongoing postural issues. Treatment can focus on developing core stability with recommended exercises similar to Pilates, which can be beneficial in the management of chronic pain and aches. As well as offering manual therapy and electrotherapy Simon also offers advice and designs exercise programmes for clients.

Male incontinence

Simon further provides treatment to a lot of over-50s men post-prostectomy ie removal of the prostate gland - who often suffer with incontinence and can benefit from treatment including pelvic floor rehabilitation.
