Search for ‘best local’ pub launched

With the drop-off in traditional pub drinking causing difficulties for operators in the drinks industry a new competition just launched to identify the best local in Ireland is timely.

The Newstalk “Best Local” 2010 competition, in association with the Vintners’ Federation of Ireland (VFI ), is now up and running and pub-lovers are invited to get involved and help promote favourite haunts in their area.

According to the promoters, the best local competition gives the Ordinary Joe and Josephine the chance to vote for the nation’s most popular local pub and help it get the national recognition they feel it so richly deserves.

“It might be that it serves the best pint of plain around or maybe it’s simply where everybody knows your name. Whatever the reason, a huge number of us keep a special place in our heart for the local pub. Whether it’s rustic or modern, traditional or gastropub, everyone has their own favourite hideaway from the stresses of life.”

Voting will commence on Monday July 26 and running for two weeks, listeners of the Sean Moncrieff Show on Newstalk 106-108FM will be encouraged to text in the name and location of their favourite local pub. All those who vote will be in with the chance of scooping top hotel prizes courtesy of the Flynn Group. The winning publican will win a radio advertising campaign on Newstalk worth €10,000 in addition to a holiday with the Flynn Group.
