‘Vulgar’ language used by mother in fight

A mother of nine who when involved with an incident with family members shouted “I’m going to take the head off her and beat her”, was before court in Castlebar on Wednesday for being threatening and abusive.

Garda Fergal O’Gara was called to an incident at 9.05pm at Hollow Grove, Castlebar where a large crowd had gathered, including a number of children. Garda O’Gara observed Ellen McDonagh, 8 Hollow Grove, who was intoxicated, engage in threatening behaviour where she said that she would “bite the face off” another person she was arguing with.

Judge Mary Devins said that McDonagh should apologise to her nine children who had to listen to their mother use “vulgar”, “vile” language. The judge convicted and fined McDonagh €200.
