County Mayo VEC has just been announced as a provider of training for jobseekers wishing to learn new skills and build on previous experience by progressing to further training and future employment.
Courses are to be provided in key areas including tourism, media, aquaculture/marine tourism and energy with elements of Communications, IT, Personal Effectiveness and Mathematics.
Specifically targetting people formerly employed in declining sectors such as construction, retail and manufacturing, with particular emphasis on the 18-35s and the long-term unemployed, the courses will be offered at a range of different locations throughout the county from September next.
These modules will be offered at FETAC Levels 3 and 4 on the National Framework of Qualifications. Practical entrepreneurial skills will be developed throughout the programme and support will be available to those who are interested in becoming self-employed. Career guidance, study skills and other supports will also be provided to all participants and clear progression pathways will be outlined into already established courses.
County Mayo VEC aims to provide the above courses from early September, which are funded under the Government backed Labour Market Activation Fund in association with the Department of Education and Skills and the European Social Fund.
