Funding for Kilmaine Community Alert

Kilmaine Community Alert has just been awarded €3,185.70 of €123 million donated to 23 groups under the Scheme of Community Support for Older People. Announcing the news, Pat Carey TD, Minister at the Department of Community, Equality and Gaeltacht Affairs, added that the scheme is now closed to applications and has been replaced by the new Seniors Alert Scheme.

Minister Carey stated: "As a result of today’s allocation a further 369 older persons will have benefited from the scheme. I am confident that the equipment made available by this funding will bring safety and peace of mind to older people.’’

The new Seniors Alert Scheme will continue to encourage and assist the community’s support for older people by means of community-based grants to improve the safety and security of its older members. The scheme is open to people aged 65 and over who have a genuine need for assistance. Funding is available towards the cost of installing monitored personal alert systems, monitored smoke and carbon monoxide detectors, external security lighting, and internal emergency lighting.
