Fine Gael Leader Enda Kenny has received information that a review is currently being undertaken with potential for the further expansion of the remit of the Garda Information Services Centre based at Davitt House in Castlebar.
Over the past three years garda personnel and civilians employed at the call centre have increased from 159 to 202.
Deputy Kenny said: “I recently questioned the Justice Minister, Dermot Ahern, about his plans to expand the service and he informed me of the key performance indicators that are used to monitor the efficiency of the centre. The figures are very impressive and appear to be making a substantial improvement to the performance of the Garda authorities through the utilisation of their PULSE database. This is a facility was rolled out nationally in 2006 by the Garda authorities and I will continue to monitor the progress on expanding the service in Castlebar.”
