All staff in Mayo local authorities are been encouraged to leave the car at home and make alternative arrangements to travel to work on Monday July 12.
The initiative, which was proposed at a council meeting earlier this year by Councillor Joe Mellett, aims to highlight the importance of physical activity in daily working life, awareness of road safety and general health and wellbeing of local authority employees.
Local authority staff who participate on the day will be invited to enter into a draw for a free bicycle/cycling equipment to the value of €300. Several other prizes such as vouchers for sports gear and outdoor wear will also be included.
