The week in business started off badly for July as shock figures showed that 900 businesses throughout Ireland have ceased trading since the beginning of the year as a result of liquidations, examinerships, or receiverships. In addition up to 2,000 jobs are at risk at Eircom while an expert group has been commissioned to examine the value of all semi-state companies including the ESB and Bord Gais. Despite claims that the country is coming out of recession industries suffering with low consumer spending include retail, wholesale, hospitality, finance and construction. The effect is being felt in Mayo as a number of local companies feature on the latest list of businesses that have folded in recent weeks, some of which are detailed below.
Companies dissolved
A hatchery and fish farm company in Achill, Oisri Acla Teoranta private limited company has been dissolved after ceasing trading (May 28 ). TJC Management Solutions Limited, a private limited general construction and civil engineering works company, has also been dissolved, while Brennan & Sons Engineering Limited, manufacturer of metal structures and parts of structures, also a private limited company, is currently in liquidation.
Companies struck off
Meanwhile a number of Mayo companies have been struck off after requests for voluntary strike-off were accepted by the Companies Registration Office. These include TI Construction Limited, Seamus Cafferkey Limited, McGrath Fabrications Limited (agriculture, hunting and related service activities ), and MCG Warehousing Limited.
New business set-ups
Fortunately it is not all bad news as a number of new Mayo businesses set-ups in the county have recently been launched. Two in Castlebar are Teqnoco and Messaging 365 (direct mobile marketing ) while other new listed Mayo companies include Mangan Concrete & Haulage (Crossmolina ), Get A Grip Adventures, Gca, 2mtec, Unicourses/UKcourses/Topcourses, and Irish Graveyard Surveyors.
