Music and more at Ballina Arts Centre this July

Con Structure

This month’s exhibition in the gallery is Con Structure by German-born, Irish based, artist Arne Witt. Con Structure is an exploration by the artist of everyday life. The artistic media he employs forms part of the exploration. Through a variety of visual arts media (objects, paintings, drawings and video projections ), the artist tries to break barriers between the different disciplines in art. As an extension of this he also combines techniques and materials, using non-traditional art materials. The exhibition runs until July 31.

Veronica McSwiney celebrating Chopin

To commemorate the bicentenary of the birth of one of the world's greatest composers, Chopin, Veronica McSwiney will perform a special concert in St Michael’s Church, Ballina, on Thursday July 22, at 8pm. This concert is not a standard recital, revolving, as it does, around the life story of Chopin. Veronica McSwiney presents this tribute in words and music.

For the Ballina concert, Veronica will take you through Chopin's life story and perform many of his famous works, including the “Grande Polonaise op.57”, “the Scherzo in B Flat”, “the Ballade in A Flat”, “etudes”, and “waltzes” in a truly unique concert and insight into the life of Poland's great pianist-composer. Admission for the concert costs €12 or €10 with a concession, booking is essential. Ballina Arts Centre is open from 10am to 5pm Monday to Friday, and 10am to 3pm on Saturdays.
