Achill half marathon takes centre stage

Next weekend all roads lead to Achill for the fifth annual Achill half marathon on Saturday July 3. If it is entertainment you are after then you will not be disappointed with events being organised in the various hostelries for the marathon weekend. The race begins at 11am with the athletes being sent off along the course to the strains of the traditional Achill sound of the Dooagh Pipeband. To accommodate the 2,000 participants, registration will open at the marquee in Keel on Friday afternoon at 2pm and close at 11pm, and will open again on Saturday from 7.30am until 10am.

This year an extended range of family based entertainment has been organised, with live music by Ice on Fire in the marquee, face painting, a variety of stalls will be set up in the tented area, the circus will be in town, and discount vouchers for the circus will be in the goody bags for runners and volunteers, 3’s broadband mobile unit will also be offering the chance to test the latest technology and send an email from the marathon.
