Located in the heart of the true Connemara Gaeltacht in Ceantar na nOileán, 35 miles west of Galway city, Coláiste na nOileán promises plenty of ceoil agus craic this summer.
Established more than 50 years ago, Coláiste na nOileán is one of the longest-running Irish colleges. Catering for children and young adults aged 10 to 18, the college offers a great selection of course options.
For the younger ones there is a specially designed five day residential course for fifth and sixth class primary, which offers the same spraoi, spóirt, and craic packed into five days. This completely separate and fully supervised course is especially designed around parents’ requests and caters specifically for this age group.
And of course there is the extremely popular three week stay for the older secondary students. Immersed in the Irish language from the moment they arrive, students have a great opportunity to improve their fluency and conservational skills. But it is not all hard work, with basketball, volleyball, soccer, uni-hoc, netball, cycling, rafting, kayaking, orienteering, swimming, drama, music, and concerts making it a hugely enjoyable and fun packed educational holiday.
Learning Irish should be fun as this helps to cultivate a love for the Irish language and its culture, a formula that has made Coláiste na n-Oileán a huge success for more than half a century. Young people also get to experience the surrounding countryside, with tours to the Aran Islands, the Twelve Pins Mountains, and the medieval city of Galway.
Special theme nights are another regular event with Oíche Hollywood, céilí, sixties just a taste of what is on offer. Courses run from early June to mid-August. www.colaistenanoilean.ie or contact: 091 595890 or email: [email protected]
