Traditional music show on Gráinne Mhaol in Westport

The hugely popular Westport traditional music show The Legend of Gráinne Mhaol has opened at Hotel Westport this month to rapturous applause and a resounding thumbs up from all those that have attended the show to date.

“It is full steam ahead now for the summer months and everyone is really looking forward to the voyage,” said show producer and Westport native Piaras Ó Raghallaigh. “This years show is bigger and better than last year with lots of new songs, dances and tunes that will thrill visitors and locals over the coming months.”

Based on the real-life story of the Pirate Queen Grace O’ Malley, or Gráinne Mhaol, The Legend of Gráinne Mhaol runs every Wednesday night at Hotel Westport this summer and is a must see for locals, visitors, and tourists. This wonderful celebration of Irish music, song, and dance is an inspiring epic, reliving the journey of the Irish legend Gráinne Mhaol throughout history.

Lord of the Dance fiddle player Cora Smyth headlines the show with You’re a Star finalist James Kilbane, Latino sensation Pollyanna Guedes, All-Ireland champion box player Darragh Healy, and Ireland’s most gifted and best known sean nós dancing family the Cunninghams from Connemara all on board for the voyage.

The show is full of energy and enthusiasm and guarantees to keep audiences of all ages gripped from start to finish as it blends the old and the new, the contemporary and the ancient, the sean nós dancing against modern step dancing.

The Legend of Gráinne Mhaol is an incredible, unique, entertainment show that combines Irish and sean nós dancing with the passionate Latino rhythms of tango and salsa in a performance of strength and passion.

“This is a wonderful entertaining show for all the family and we’re delighted to be hosting the show this summer in Hotel Westport,” said Hotel Westport general manager Declan Heneghan. Tickets for the show cost €20 and are available from Hotel Westport at 098 25122.
