Death of Archbishop Neary’s mother

Tribute to the late Mrs Neary

Catherine Wiley, founder of the Irish Catholic Grandparents’ Association, has paid tribute to the late Mrs Neary, describing her as “a wonderful woman of the faith”.

Mrs Wiley added that Mrs Neary was the first member of the association and it was parents and grandparents like Mrs Neary who were so important to family as they prop up everything in the home. “Being a grandparent is the most sensitive job in the world as they have to know when to step back and when to step in.

“Mrs Neary was the first member of this association — the Archbishop is also a patron. We were very honoured to be able to make his mother, Mrs Neary, the first honorary member. She was a great woman, a truly wonderful woman of the faith.”

As the Catholic Grandparents’ Association goes from strength to strength Mrs Wiley hopes to ultimatey have a branch set up in every town in the country.

“We talk at church Masses every weekend and so far have branches in Castlebar, Westport, and Achill, where we are speaking at Masses this weekend. The talks highlight the importance of grandparents with a view to helping them pass on their faith, wisdom, and values to upcoming generations. It is all about creating memorable events for grandparents and children to enjoy together.”

The first grandparents’ day in faith has been organised for July 26 next.
