A roofing contractor who, when in a rush on a way to a meeting, overtook a line of traffic in a 60 kilometre an hour zone and then forced his way back into the line of traffic, was convicted of careless driving at Ballina District Court.
On October 8 2009, a report was given to gardaí that as Colman Lynch, Cloontowart, Lisacul, Castlerea, Co Roscommon, drove out of Foxford, in the direction of Ballina, he overtook a line of slow moving cars. However as a vehicle approached in the opposite direction Lynch forced his way back into the line of traffic, which caused some of the vehicles to swerve and brake.
The 62-year-old, who drives extensively as part of his job, had the dangerous driving charge dismissed by Judge Mary Devins and Lynch was convicted and fined €500 for careless driving.
