Superintendent of Westport Mick Murray commended the efficient work of the Garda Regional Support Unit, which is based in Claremorris, as “being the most beneficial resource in Mayo for the past 25 years”.
The “extremely efficient group” has been deployed twice by the superintendent throughout the county in recent weeks and were a “tremendous asset”.
Supt Murray outlined at the recent JPC meeting in Westport, that there is a three month intensive training for this support unit, which has the best in modern weapons and technology available. In Claremorris, there are four units, consisting of one sergeant and four gardaí in each unit.
