Celebrations lead to disqualification

A Ballina man who had a few celebratory drinks with colleagues for his 30th birthday and who then drove to collect a friend was disqualified from driving at this week’s sitting of Ballina District Court.

Garda John Barrett observed John McCann, Connolly Street, Ballina, drive in a dangerous manner on Barrett Street, Ballina, on October 12 2009 at 4.20am.

McCann was stopped and failed a roadside breath test. A blood sample later provided showed 135mg of alcohol per 100ml of blood.

The defendant, who has no previous convictions and who is a chef in Enniscrone, was convicted and fined €400 and disqualified from driving for two years by Judge Mary Devins.
