CCTV application for Westport

An application for 15 CCTV cameras in Westport is currently being prepared, according to Superintendent Mick Murray .

At the last meeting of the Joint Policing Committee in Westport the superintendent stated that the initial application was returned to him to work on costings, and currently there is no timeframe for when the application may be approved, However, he is following the progress of the application “vigorously”.

Fine Gael councillor Christy Hyland said that CCTV is “badly needed” in one of the busiest tourist towns in Ireland.

Cathaoirleach of Westport, Cllr Myles Staunton, said that the “town council are pushing the application as much as they can alongside the gardaí.”
