A spokesperson from the Mayo Fire Service said that Bonfire Night was “very quiet”, with the fire brigade called out to two minor bonfire incidents — one in Westport and one in Castlebar, both of which were easily dealt with.
Separately, there were a number of gorse fires throughout the county during the week. Fire services attended a gorse fire on Wednesday evening in Ballina, while other gorse fires spotted in the county were short in duration and did not require the attendance of the fires services.
