Labour Party Castlebar town councillor Harry Barrett has called for a clearance of the log jam in the NCT waiting time. “Someone must act and address the current chaos in the National Car Testing system,” he said.
“Reports today indicate that more than 98,000 drivers across the country are currently scheduled and waiting for an NCT, but many motorists face waiting times of five weeks or more. In fact, drivers in this town have been told there are no NCT slots available until August at the earliest.”
Cllr Barrett said he believed the situation was undermining people’s confidence in the NCT system. “The ongoing chaos with NCT testing is completely undermining drivers’ confidence in the whole system and Minister Noel Dempsey must get involved and sort out this mess. It is incredible that the Government would introduce a new five penalty point rule for motorists not in possession of a valid NCT without first making sure that the system actually works and that drivers can access an NCT.”
